Working on Preemadonna's STEM Kit Nailbot project has been a dream, and I can't wait to share my journey with you. This project is truly so important to me as an engineering student and a passionate advocate for girls in STEM. Preemadonna's vision was clear: to empower young girls to explore the wonders of science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics, all while creating something truly remarkable – a Nailbot. But this kit is not just about putting together the pieces; it's about understanding the why behind the how. And that's where I came in. This summer, I had the privilege of working closely with Preemadonna's executive and engineering teams to develop a curriculum tailored for younger girls designed to ignite their passion for STEM. We wanted to provide an opportunity for these growing scientists and engineers to explore, experiment, and understand the world of technology in a way that resonated with them.
The need for such a product became apparent when I reflected on my journey. I vividly remember being a young girl who felt somewhat alienated from the world of STEM because it seemed like a man's thing. Unfortunately, this perception is not uncommon. Many educational tools and games geared towards STEM often cater more to boys, leaving young girls feeling left out. As a second-year aerospace engineering student at the University of Colorado Boulder, I now understand the importance of introducing girls to STEM at a young age. The Nailbot STEM Kit embodies this mission – a tool to break down barriers and stereotypes and encourage girls to embrace their love for science and engineering. If I had this kit when I was younger, I believe it would have transformed my relationship with STEM, possibly even inspiring me to join the field much earlier.
I am grateful for the opportunity to be part of a project that aims to reshape the narrative of STEM education for young girls. Together, we're creating a world where STEM is not just a field for men but a realm where every girl's curiosity and creativity can shine.
